A Nostalgic Rainy Night in Japan

It was a rainy night—perfect rain, actually: slow, calm, and without thunder. The kind of rain that inspires you to read a book or enjoy a cup of coffee.

The dream took place on a street in Japan (although I’ve never been there, I knew it was Japan).

I was on the second floor, watching the rain while wearing a typical warm suit from Japan and listening to beautiful Japanese music, like "September Rain" by Makoto Matsushita. The "house" was one of my favorites because of its structure and its common red color. In front of me was a large cherry blossom tree, which I do see love.

I felt nostalgic, as if something important had

been removed from my life. I imagined I was living there without my family, or perhaps my parents had passed away. I’m not sure, but the feeling was like if I were learning to love what I had despite a lingering loneliness. Because, even though I had my favorite things around me, I was still feling nostalgic.

As I looked at the street, I saw my cousin Carlos walking with a translucent umbrella and hugging a pretty girl. I felt happy for him and wished them happiness and blessings as they walked away (he hasn't always been with good partners, and I worry about him because he’s a good but somewhat foolish boy).

I was smiling when someone came up behind me, hugged me, handed me a cup of tea, and kissed my cheek. Then I felt better...

When I opened my eyes, I was back in my own life.

  1. I loved it, many times nostalgia visits us and it is a painful feeling to find yourself like this. :3

  2. I really liked your writing, it made me imagine I was in Japan seeing the place you describe. I think that many times we get what we have always wanted, but there will always be something that makes us nostalgic, an emptiness that can't be filled with something material.
